An unintended expatriate blogger guiding CozyPrairieRoute

Hello, I am Sophie
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. An expatriate living in Basel, Switzerland.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually evolved into a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Switzerland wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much bigger.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complex than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built CozyPrairieRoute
Most information online was either corporate-relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Switzerland
- Centers on family life and everyday realities
- Refreshed when something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue noting what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Basel or anywhere in Switzerland, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Sophie
